Fengshui for my home office

  • Position your desk in the so-called feng shui commanding position to attract stronger and more successful energies to your work area. A feng shui commanding position means you do not have your back to the door; your desk is positioned further from the door and not in line with it. The feng shui commanding position in any room is the spot that is further from the door and not in the direct line with it. It is usually diagonally from the door and facing the door.
  • Be also mindful of not facing a wall while working at your desk. If you are facing a wall in your workspace all day long, your personal energy is restricted and blocked. If you have to face the wall, use feng shui to make the wall "disappear" with smart use of art.  Here is what you can do when you have to face a blocking wall for several hours a day: hang good art or photos of places that inspire you, of people that helped you grow or people you admire, hang your diplomas and certifications, etc. You get the idea. The purpose is to transform a blocking wall into an inspiration wall. Instead of having your energy blocked, now you will be absorbing high energy coming from inspiring to you items.
  • If you have to sit with the desk against the wall, place a mirror above the desk so that you can see what is going on behind your back.
  • Plan your home office with your success, well-being and productivity in mindThink of specific images, feng shui colors, meaningful career memorabilia and appropriate decor items that make you feel successful, appreciated, and happy. Since you are working from home, feel free to fully express your creativity in decorating your office. Depending on your chosen field, you need to make sure your home office reflects the energy you want to project into the world.
  • Be mindful of the quality of air and the quality of light (natural and artificial) in your home office, as these are two of the good feng shui must-haves. If your brain is starving for oxygen and your body does not get enough natural light, you will not enjoy being in your home office no matter how much you love your job. Consider investing in full-spectrum lights and do bring at least a couple of air-purifying plants into your home office.
  • Chose furniture that is comfortable and of good quality, that give you a sense of stability and security.
  • Position your computer to the west side of the desk to increase creativity or alternatively to the southeast side to generate income.
  • Keep your business essentials like telephone, fax machine, printer in the south east side of the desk to encourage more business.
  • Hide unseemly computer cables and cords to avoid giving a sense of chaos.
  • Place a plant in a red pot on the east side of your desk to encourage good health and boost your energy levels while working.
  • You can also place a Bamboo or Money tree on the southeast side of the desk to bring in wealth.
  • Keep your working space clean and tidy. Nothing obstruct Ch'i more than a messy desk. Throw away old calendars, post-it notes, diaries etc.
  • Don't put a shelf over your desk. This symbolizes burdens the world crashing down on you at any moment. The heavy shelf also symbolizes burdens and difficulties.
  • Avoid having sharp accessories, such as a paper cutter blade or the corner of a Xerox machine pointed at your desk. It is shar chi that symbolizes the cutting knife-edge or a disapproving finger pointing at you.
  • Do not have clutter in your office. Desktops must be kept tidy and clutter free. Avoid placing In and Out trays on your desk. Try to keep what is in use on your desktop.
